It's About That Time...

Well, the ole' one-year anniversary is coming up. Can you believe it?
More thoughts on all of that later.

Until then...what did YOU do for your first anniversary?
Any cheap ideas for some poor newlyweds?

We went out to a nice dinner on our actual anniversary. The traditional gift for the first year anniversary is paper. So, we bought tickets to the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concert, which wasn't until a month after our anniversary, but we still had fun.

We were on vaca, so we just went to a really nice dinner. Gave each other real sweet cards, etc. Sorry that is not really helpful.

We were very much not rich at one year, so we found an old school picnic basket on Ebay and planned to get Chili's to go and go on an actual real picnic with the basket and blanket and everything. The funny thing was that it rained on our anniversary, so we moved the coffee table out of the living room of our apartment and had our Chili's to go out of the basket on the blanket on our living room floor. It was still fun. Just do something out of the ordinary for you - it doesn't have to be fancy.

Greg was still a y.m. & had a church meeting (imagine that!) on our anniversary that he couldn't get out of, so we just went to a late dinner at Ralph & Kacoos in Birmingham. BTW, I was PISSED. We went to Charleston a month later & counted that as our actual anniversary gift to each other. I like the idea of getting tickets to something you both like since paper is the traditional gift.

Whatever you do- do not eat the 12 month old wedding cake in the freezer. There is nothing romantic about eating food that is past expiration. How would you feel if Nick reached into the fridge and chugged a gallon of milk marked 3/11/06?

So, I came back to your post to see what other people had written and thought I'd comment about the cake. Ours was very good. I think a lot of it had to do with the way my mom wrapped it up. She wrapped it several times in saran wrap, then wax paper, then foil, then put it in a tupperware container. I think this kept it from getting freezer burn. We let it thaw in our fridge a few days before our anniversary. So, my advice is that you've kept it for a year, you might as well try a bite.

My "saved" wedding cake is still in the deep freezer at my dad's house. We got married almost 6 years ago. We should probably throw it out...

I've got an idea.
My mom saved a ham-sized portion of
our homemade wedding cake in her deep freezer. Two years ago I transferred it to our refrig/freezer and its now going on a ripe old 33 years old.

Since you've only seen pics of our wedding, and we have no clue what
out of the ordinary thing we did to observe our first anniversary, but I'm pretty sure by the size of the frozen cake, we didn't eat any of it then or at any time later, would you want it?

We had a piece of our cake too and really wasn't that bad. It was kind of nice seeing as we didn't actually get to partake in our cake on the actual wedding day.

In the interest of diversifying the first anniversary experiences, I'll share ours. We went to Fuddruckers on Greenville in Big D.

We don't do well with those high pressure celebrations, so we tend to ignore them. But hey, we were together and I LOVE FUDDRUCKERS!

We spent the night in the hotel where we stayed when we got engaged and married. I mean, we got engaged there, did NOT stay there together when we got engaged, but stayed there when we got married and then on our 1st anniversary (reunion tower in dallas). Sorry to be the overly-detailed clarifier, but that sounded like wrong didn't it?

I can't believe it's been a year. I was sooo pregnant and uncomfortably big at your wedding! I can't believe it's been a year.

We were in FRANCE for our first anniversary. Daniels family went for 2 weeks and we went too. It was great but needless to say we were busy and said "Happy Annivarsary" probably at some historical place in France. :)

Anniversaries are completely over-rated.

So is marriage.

Always remember: Every time you pray, you're doing so in the Holy Name of a 33 year old single guy. Of such is the Kingdom, baby.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go do whatever I want...for however long I want...without having to "call and check in" with anyone.
