waking up

alright, i'm enlisting the help of anyone who reads this:
what do you do to wake up in the mornings?

since getting married, i have become even WORSE of a morning person than i used to be. previously, it was just me depending on myself to get started. but now...now i have this amazing human alarm clock. i know that if i stay in bed long enough, nick will always come to my rescue and give me the final wake-up call. even better, as soon as i step out of my room, eyes half-shut, i just follow my nose to the kitchen, where my coffee-hating husband has brewed enough for a fresh cup just for moi. am i spoiled or what?

even after this whole fabulous routine, i still drive to work feeling drowsy and hating that i have to be alive during the morningtime.

i am worried that one day when i have kids, i will be a horrible mother because they are interrupting my 9 required hours of sleep and i will go through my day mad and bitter that i will never sleep again. will i be a horrible mom?!

does anyone else have the curse of non-morning-person-ness? what do you find is the best way to wake up in the morning?

Well, Jonathan considers it a character flaw in me if I can't get up. That's what drives me out of bed on time... he is proud and congratulates me if I pop right out of bed. Sad that I can't relish in hating mornings anymore.

I will tell you this new life motto, though (adopted in the last year or so): better to get up early and get it over with than languish and draw it out. If I could be at work at 7:30 every day if it meant leaving at 4 on the dot, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Also, let me ask you: do those extra minutes really make a difference in the way you feel? Having tested this theory tooooo many times, I'm curious for your answer...

I have to MAKE myself get out of bed, but I always feel better about myself when I do... I am definitely a snoozer, and I set my alarm clock with ample amount of snoozable time... I don't think it's in me to just change, but after waking up consistently early during the school year, I'm finding it difficult to sleep past 7:30 this summer--unless I have a late night of reading!

Jesse,
Wow, by the looks of your blog, you're a professional!! I'm still fairly new and haven't figured it all out yet. Thanks for your post on my site. I tracked you down from Brooke's site too! Congrats of your recent marriage! You two look so happy and your wedding pictures are absolutely gorgeous! Wish I could have been there. I'll be sure and keep up with you through your blog!

Knowing I get to spend another day with my lovely wife is all it takes to wake me up in the morning!

I am unfortunately a morning kind of person. But for those hard mornings, I recommend two ways of handling your morning...they have both worked for me. 1) Get out of bed with more than enough time to get ready and get ready and then go back to sleep for a little 30 minute power nap. Then while you are getting ready you can just tell yourself "hurry up and get ready so you can lay back down for a little bit. 2) Wake up late. Sometimes I set my alarm for 6:30, knowing I will hit snooze until 6:45, thus only giving me 30 minutes to jump in a shower that won't warm up completely and rushing around with adrenaline flowing and speeding off to work. It's the mornings where I have just enough time to get ready that while I am blow drying my hair or dragging myself out of bed that I want to shoot myself.

I know I already posted, but it had nothing to do with your blog and I'd like to comment on this one. I totally worried about same thing before I became a mother! I am a horrible morning person and I actually like to have 10 hrs. of sleep a night. I did feel like a walking zombie for about the first month and wondered how I was doing it on so little sleep. Your body just totally adjusts. Not that it ever got easy. Grant got use to the fact that when he woke up to eat he got no smiles and no talking to (I know that sounds horrible) but I don't think that it was physically possible for me! Grant just knew hey, I'm eating and then going straight back to bed. NO fun times in the middle of the night. Hopefully you'll be blessed with a good sleeper (thankfully I did) and he'll be sleeping through the night soon. Don't fear... you can still be a good mother and not like mornings! Oh, another thing is that you'll most likely go to bed much earlier when your a mother and so you can still get up early but still have had your 9 hrs. of sleep.

Only thing that works for me... use my cell phone alarm, on the loudest setting, and I plug it in in the kitchen which is a ways away from my bed. Then I have to get up to turn it off. If I don't hear it, which happens occasionally, or most days, Josh usually gives me a good kick in the rear to go turn it off. That really gets me going.
